Newdawn Community Centre is managing various initiatives in Mukuru, Kisii and Kabondo. These initiatives are working on Newdawn Community Centre efforts and motivation of its staff, volunteers and the local community in developing programmes which encourage self-reliance for the community. Some of the already existing and upcoming projects include:
Formal education
Newdawn Community Centre provides formal education to children, youth and adults who did not get the chance to attain their education. This is done in rental rooms because the centre has not attained the land to build classrooms. The centre also takes pupils for education trips.
Sports and entertainment
Newdawn Centre also enables the pupils and other youths to participate in various sports like football. This enables the youths to grow physically fit and keeps them busy thus reducing their risks from HIV/AIDS and drug abuse. Youths also participate in entertainment which includes traditional dances, drama, poetry and song recitation.
Provision of material support
Newdawn provides learning materials to the pupils to help in improving better performance of the school.
Supporting unfortunate children
Newdawn supports a number of children in unfortunate circumstances. Click here to read about some of these children.
Sugercane growing in rural areas
Newdawn Community Centre also encourages some of the youth in rural areas to engage in farming activities where by they can exercise their potential and gain from the little available resources making a change in community.
HIV/AIDS
In conjunction with the Kenya Ministry of Health and Education, we usually hold straight talks with the community members discussing issues about HIV/AIDS and other related STIs.
Women empowerment
In our centre we usually hold talks and encourage our women to vie for certain posts in the management. We also offer for them some posts in management to give the skills to perform it.
Do or Die (DOD)
Do or die is a testing project established in Kisii. Newdawn is aiming at imporving the health and economy standards of the rural youths. We therefore started a dairy farm in Kisii to generate income for the organization and the members at large to improve their economic and health status. The cow would produce milk and some of the milk would be used as food and some sold to earn income.
