Accommodation

Accomodation will be arranged for you with a local host family within a reasonable walking distance to your project. Your host family will provide you with 3 meals a day as part of your accomodation.

Accommodation will usually be a bed in a room for volunteers. Exact details of your accommodation will be given once your project and dates have been confirmed. Every effort will be made to provide accommodation in accordance with your wishes.

Projects

HelpKenya can assist you in finding a project to suit your skills, experience and interests. Projects can be organised in Nairobi or in rural areas and can include schools, orphanages, community groups, farms, health clinics and hospitals. A number of these projects are sourced from local community-based organisations and groups affiliated with HelpKenya.

Costs

Many organisations charge people to volunteer. This money usually goes to cover the cost of the volunteer staying in Kenya, the costs of running the volunteer organisation (administration charges and salaries of many staff), expensive orientations and many other things which can add up to a large amount of money for someone who is already giving of their time and experience.

HelpKenya was established to assist people to volunteer in Kenya at the lowest cost possible. The only amounts HelpKenya asks a volunteer to pay are to cover the actual costs of the volunteer placement in Kenya. There is no program fee, no hidden costs, only a minimal administration fee and money to cover accommodation and food.

HelpKenya does not make any profit from volunteer fees and all operating expenses such as the website, office and salaries are paid out of donor contributions. This allows volunteers to come to Kenya and decide how they want to help and where they want their money to go.

Fees

• Administration fee: 700ksh (approx US$10)
• Accommodation fee: Up to 600ksh (approx US$8.50) per night, which includes 3 meals per day.
